The problem this product addresses is real and modern. High efficiency machines use much less water than the top loaders they replaced, and they wash mostly in cold. Detergent, fabric softener, body soil and hard water minerals build up in the drum, the outer tub, the dispenser and, in a front loader, the folds of the rubber door gasket. That film feeds bacteria and mold, which is where the sour smell in a front loader comes from, and it eventually transfers back onto clothes.
A tablet cleaner is an empty cycle treatment for exactly that. It is not something you add to a wash with laundry in it.

When it finishes, wipe out the drum, pull back the door gasket and wipe inside the fold, then leave the door and the dispenser drawer open to dry.
