Most household chemical accidents involving small children happen during ordinary use, not during storage, and they happen in the few minutes when a bottle is out of the cupboard and somebody turns away. Storage is still where the risk is set, because it decides how often a container is within reach, whether the label is still legible, and whether two products that must never meet are sitting side by side. The aim is simple: out of reach, out of sight, in the original container, with the label intact.
Detergent pacs need their own rules
Laundry detergent pacs and tablets are a documented child poisoning hazard. The concentrated liquid inside is under pressure in a film that dissolves on contact with moisture, and a small child who bites one receives a mouthful of undiluted detergent rather than the diluted wash water an ordinary bottle would produce. The bright colors and the soft feel do not help.

Original containers, always
Decanting is the second largest cause of serious exposures. Keep the label readable. Pets live at floor level
A dog or a cat encounters cleaning products differently. The exposure routes are paws that walk across a wet floor and are then licked, a nose held close to a freshly treated surface, and a chewed bottle. That argues for keeping animals out of a room until treated floors are fully dry, for rinsing where a label calls for a rinse, and for not storing anything at floor level in a utility room an animal can enter.
Batteries belong in the same conversation. Some purchases create a storage problem that did not exist before.
